In 2013, we took on the first phase of an important project: to examine what beauty means to local women. We were floored by the responses. #ddsbeautyis took on a life of it’s own.
Some women felt that beauty is what makes us grow, that it is in grace and strength, and that it is most visible when we do the things we love.
We took some beautiful photos with a selection of local women who wanted to help change how the world sees beautiful women – by showing their true selves on camera.
It started a wonderful conversation – so much so, that we decided to do it again. But this time, we went bigger.
We sent out a call to all local women – the story even ran on the local news. We asked for thoughtful responses to what makes them feel beautiful, why they’d be interested in modeling for us, and what beauty means to them. The response was phenomenal.
This is only a fraction of the shoot we produced with eight of the women who we felt best captured our vision of beauty, confidence, and empowerment. We hope you fall in love with the photos and words as much as we did – these women inspire us to keep doing what we do, to work harder, and more passionately, for a time when all women see their own beauty, and the beauty around them.
